Sterling Development offers a customised assessment service in which we provide a thorough review of your information technology systems and environment. We then deliver an evaluation and recommendations for action.

Our IT Assessment can help ensure that your organisation’s IT systems and operations are continually adding business value. An IT system isn’t just technology for technology’s sake - it should should help you meet specific business goals and provide value that is both visible and measurable.

Sterling Development in association with our partners, CIO International Limited offers a customised IT assessment service in which we provide you with a thorough review of your technology systems. Our highly experienced team uses an assessment methodology developed from years of practical application in a variety of international company settings.

While our methodology is designed to provide a comprehensive assessment of a client’s IT environment covering the full scope of IT and Information Management, it is organised in modules and can be adapted to address each client’s particular priorities. It can also be applied selectively to track progress in areas targeted for improvement. While the assessment covers the IT aspects of the business, its ultimate focus is on the business itself, to ensure that IT fully serves your operational and strategic needs.

A successful IT system is multi-faceted and simultaneously focused on various levels of operation. It is a highly-distributed function that touches all areas of a business to one degree or another. This process is very complex, which is why outside specialists are often brought in to assess IT systems as ‘a unit’.

IT Assessment and Business Value

Before any organisation’s leadership can decide its priorities for business and operational improvements, a necessary first step is to better understand how well your IT environment is performing as a function, and in particular how well it supports the delivery of your business strategy. We provide a blueprint for improving your technology and a specific and measurable template for achieving business objectives more efficiently and effectively.  A well-executed IT assessment will identify strengths and weaknesses, as well as suggest methods to boost efficiency, productivity and profitability. We appraise how your technology helps or hinders your business and recommend how to use technology to meet the business goals and objectives. This can become a key platform for business advantage. A thorough understanding of the IT environment, its capabilities and potential helps the organisation’s leaders to identify opportunities to exploit technology for business advantage. Technology can become an enabler, helping to unlock new opportunities for the business.

Analysing the layers of an IT system through an IT assessment will undoubtedly pinpoint issues or rifts. The upside is that with this information, organisations can take the next steps towards boosted productivity, properly utilised resources, enhanced system security and higher profitability.

Our Approach and Process

Our methodology is organised as a series of modules. This provides flexibility, allowing assessments to be implemented as a complete package, as a subset of modules in a bundle, or individually, as required. This also allows us to schedule and organise the work effort to provide interim results on priority areas as required.

Assessments are conducted using data gathered from existing sources  and reports, plus surveys and interviews that will be documented on a confidential basis.  Based on these data, we assess and comment relative to global international best practices.  We recognise that not all clients will aspire to or require the highest international standards in all areas and so assessments will also be made against what each client decides is a desirable level.

Based on these data, we assess and comment relative to international best practices. Interviews are then conducted with budget executives and IT leaders. We then produce a report and recommendations based on those interviews and the data analysis from the survey. Our assessment report includes an executive summary, SWOT analysis and detailed module reports. A suggested action plan with business implications is also included.

Our approach quickly delivers a comprehensive and structured assessment, from which clients can identify areas of strength and establish priority areas for improvement. It is also used as a background tool as we work with each client to gradually develop a more detailed understanding of the client’s environment. The methodology can also be applied later to help track progress in areas targeted for improvement.

We recognise that not all clients will aspire to or require the highest international standards in all areas and so assessments will also be made against what each client decides is a desirable level. Our assessments for each  module are rated using the following five level scale*:

Initial: Beginner competency or performance level

Basic: Proficiency competency or performance level

Intermediate: Good competency or performance level

Advanced: Above average competency or performance level

Optimised: Leading competency or performance level

*These are the initial default levels. After reviewing our assessment results, some clients may wish to define higher or custom designed performance levels for subsequent assessment and tracking.
